Training on "OpenOffice and Mozilla Localizaton"

Overview

The training was in 2 parts, first overviews of OpenOffice, Mozilla, ICU localization. Then implementation of OpenOffice Localization, with writing a Dzongkha rendering module in ICU. Also Mozilla localization, Live CD creation.

Objectives

Main objective was to achieve Dzongkha (Tibetan script) support in ICU, and do a Dzongkha enabled OpenOffice.

Specifically, the training aimed to achieve the following:

  • Simple build process of Open office 1.x

  • Enabling Open office suite to support Dzongkha language and the Dzongkha locale file. This is the first step to localizing Open Office. It involves changing the Openoffice source files

  • Develop ICU layout engine to support proper rendering of Dzongkha Unicode characters in Openoffice. Here we need to incorporate our locale file for Dzongkha too

  • Incorporating the Open office Glossary terms in the form of GSI files and rebuilding the Open office source file with the translated files. This can be carried out only if the translator can translate the Open office glossary in time and if this is not the case, the developer at DIT will try to learn the process of translating the Openoffice.

  • Develop a spell checker for Open office

  • Implementing latest mozilla source files to support pango

  • Look at how to translate Mozilla

  • Need to have a look at creating live CD in details

  • Building GNOME from source code
